Where this started
The table in the Kitchen Table Finance logo isn't a stock photo. It's real. It was built by hand from reclaimed scaffolding boards — oiled to a deep amber — by someone whose grandfather was a master carpenter who built the altar in his village church in Barnsley.
Practical knowledge, passed down. Built to last.
That's the model here.
What we're not
We are not a financial advice site. We don't recommend products. We don't compare mortgages or rate ISAs. We don't tell you to stop buying coffee.
Kitchen Table Finance is a publication. It's for education and entertainment. The goal is to show you how the systems work — so that you can make your own decisions with your eyes open.
What we are
We're here for people who suspect they're not getting maximum value from the systems they're already participating in.
The UK tax system, the energy market, pension rules, salary sacrifice schemes — these aren't designed to be opaque. But they're not designed to be transparent either. They reward the people who understand them and quietly charge more from the people who don't.
We do the reverse-engineering. You apply the results.
The editorial philosophy
Every piece of content here follows the same shape: story first, then decision, then tool (if there is one). We're not in the business of telling you what to do. We're in the business of making sure you have what you need to decide.
"Don't work harder, work smarter" is the literal premise — not a motivational poster.
